Preparation before the Trip
Please come prepared with all the basics you will need during your stay, insurance, travel and other expenses, and make your own arrangements for transportation to the VC and hotel accommodations, if necessary. We, RQ, would not be liable for your activities or expenses other than during volunteer work.
Situation and needs in the Tohoku region change over time. Please check the latest information, especially if you are planning to take the public transportation.

Sample Route to RQ Volunteer Centers
Arrival & Registration
Go to Administration (“Soumu”) to register and get orientation first. Make sure to receive and wear your name tag.
We recommend you to arrive by 6:30 p.m. so that you can attend the meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. every evening.
You can get the daily reports and have your work for the next day assigned at this meeting.
You must arrive at any VC by 10:00 p.m. at the latest. If your arrival is later than 10:00 p.m., you may not be permitted to enter the facilities. You must stay outside overnight, for example, in your car.
Volunteer Insurance for Foreigners
Even if you have already purchased any volunteer insurance, you are required to purchase Miyagi Prefecture Volunteer Insurance at the registration additionally. It enables you to make a claim when you are involved in an accident or sustain an injury while participating in volunteer activities or when other people seek compensation for damage or injury sustained to them by you.
Daily Life in a Volunteer Center
The following notices are useful information for your life at VC.
Each VC has also their own small rules. Please follow the instructions at your VC.

We usually finish breakfast by 7:00 a.m. and get ready to begin/leave for work at 8:00 a.m. If you will be working outside the VC, you have to prepare and pack your own lunch by yourself. We work until 4:00 p.m. and return to the VC by 6:30 p.m.
At the night meeting, everyone gathers in the hole and discusses about everything.
Important Notice for Communal Life at VC
Use only the designated entrance of the building.
For hygienic reasons, entrance and exit from the kitchen’s door with dirty work clothes are strictly prohibited.
Take off your shoes at the entrance and keep them in a bag with your luggage.
Do not leave them at the entrance.
Smoking is permitted only in the designated smoking area(s); this rule is strictly enforced.
Sanriku region has suffered large-scale forest fires, and the local residents are very concerned about this issue.
Please give your help when serving and cleaning up at meal hours. Always keep the dining space clean for other people.
If you don’t bring your own dishes, you may borrow them. In that case, make sure to wash, dry and return them to the specified location.
Make sure to separate any waste into composting, combustibles, cans, glass, etc. as indicated.
◆Cleaning (including the Toilets)
We appreciate your spontaneous voluntary supports. All facilities are for us all – everyone is responsible!
◆Cars and Parking
Please do not park in any place other than the designated parking areas.
◆Laundry and Changing Room
A washing machine is available in some VCs.
At Tome and Kahoku VC, there are changing room and laundry drying space, though JUST FOR LADIES. Nevertheless, please follow the rules of each VC for the matter.
Only the traditional Japanese style toilets are available.
Please make sure to wash your hands properly to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, before leaving the facility.
There are some options to take a bath or a shower. Please ask Administration for details.
Before your departure, make sure to
return your name holder and armband.
You can keep your name tag as a memento.
